Apple Agreed to Develop 4G TD-LTE iPhone In China [REPORT]
Today the claim arised from the report by Marketwatch that China Mobile Ltd. said Apple has agreed on using its 4G TD-LTE technology in a future version of its iPhone. It has also reported that China Mobile has “reached consensus” with Apple on using TD-LTE, the carrier’s fourth-generation cellular data standard, in an iPhone to be offered by China Mobile.
China Mobile Chairman Wang Jianzhou said;“There are over 4 million China Mobile customers using the iPhone. Currently, China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd. (CHU) is the only Chinese mobile operator to offer them. The company plans to start commercial trials of the 4G technology it is promoting, called time-division long term evolution, or TD-LTE, in China beginning next year.”Additional, very interesting report arised according to Bloomberg, which itself does not state the two companies came to a final agreement. Wang said;
“The company may also be able to offer Apple Inc. (AAPL)s iPhone with the shift to TD-LTE, While Apple has decided not to make a version of the phone for the third-generation TD-SCDMA system that is used only by China Mobile, the Cupertino, California-based company may produce one for the TD-LTE system.”Apple had reportedly originally planned to release an LTE-capable iPhone in 2011, but has pushed the device back to at least 2012. The same report also noted that China Mobile is expected to begin selling Apple’s next-generation iPhone later this year. Jeffries & Co. analyst Peter Misek has also predicted that China Mobile will get the “iPhone 4S” in September.
